Having a deficit of 100 million euros is dizzying. There are two ways to overcome them, raise taxes or reduce spending.
One city in the Germany, Dortmund, got a financial deficit, so they decided to impose a prostitution tax . The new tax called for commercial sex workers in Dortmund to buy a daily ticket costs 6 euros each time they work. If the sex workers do not buy a ticket, they are subject to greater fines.
Dortmund city government spokesman, Michael Meinders, said that the daily ticket sales are expected to accumulate a fund of 750,000 euros per year. He added that Dortmund had financial problems as well as other cities in Germany.
The new tax will come into force in August next year. Another alternative is to impose levies of 1 or 2 euros for every person who entered the red light district in Dortmund, but this idea is getting little support.
